Black spots on the carpet caused by fire damage
Soot removal from carpet and upholstery is not as easy as you think!
The above picture features a fully synthetic, grey carpet. Unfortunately the carpet was showered with soot caused by a small fire which had took place in the loft.
The customer did exactly the right thing by not rubbing the carpet, rubbing any spot on a carpet will only make matters worse by working the surface contamination further into the carpet making removal very difficult.
Follow these simple steps if you have a similar situation:
- Carefully remove any dry particles using a vacuum cleaner using the hose if its an upright
- Make sure to keep children and pets away from the area
- Call 01252 319391 and explain exactly what has been dropped on the carpet rather than have a go at removing the spots
Successful removal will depend on 3 main factors: Carpet type, the source of the spot, time.
If your carpet has been treated with a good quality soil and stain prevention treatment such as StainShield, spot removal can be significantly easier
If the carpet contains natural fibres such as wool, removal can be a challenge!
A cream coloured, wool carpet with soot/carbon from a fire place is more difficult to remove than a dark coloured, fully synthetic carpet.
Also be prepared to have the entire carpet cleaned as spot removal will always leave patches, especially if the carpet is soiled.
