Urine Carpet Removal
This is the correct way to remove urine from a carpet
Today we visited a customer with a beautiful house situated in the heart of the Hampshire countryside. No expense had been spared furnishing the house, especially when it came to the carpets.
The house had been fitted with very good quality 80/20 looped pile wool carpets but unfortunately the family dog had urinated all over it causing permanent damage.
Here’s a few things you need to know :
-
Fresh urine is acidic
- Wool carpets are naturally acidic
Acidic liquids dropped onto a wool carpet are fairly easily removable as long as you act quickly and use the correct methods, however if you leave the urine in the carpet for a length of time this is what happens:
- Urine slowly turns from an acid into an alkaline
- High alkaline liquids will damage wool carpets, causing permanent staining
Unless the urine is quickly removed from the carpet, it will change from an acid into an alkaline and its the alkaline which strips the colour from a carpet much like a bleach.
We use specific products which balance the PH of the carpet, neutralizing the crystals within the urine thus preventing staining and odour.
When pet or a human passes urine onto a carpet, the urine will naturally find its way to the lowest point which is through the carpet and underlay until it rests on the sub floor. In some cases we will lift the carpet which then allows access to the sub floor if the contamination is severe.
Using our high powered truck mounted carpet cleaning system we can flush the carpet.
If your pet of child has urinated on your carpet DO NOT DELAY!
Time is the important factor here, as long as we can get to the carpet within a few hours, permanent staining can be avoided!
Until we arrive simply place a damp towel over the area.
